ESG – Environmental, Social & Governance

THE JOHNSTOWN COLLECTION

At The Johnstown Collection, ESG is an operating standard embedded into how our hotels are managed, developed and governed. Each property applies practical, measurable actions across environmental performance, social responsibility and governance, guided by shared principles and local accountability.

Our approach prioritises responsible resource use, long-term asset stewardship and fair, inclusive workplaces. Investment decisions are informed by operational data, regulatory requirements and the needs of our guests, teams and communities, ensuring sustainability supports both performance and experience.

ENVIRONMENTAL

Across the Collection, environmental action focuses on reducing consumption, improving efficiency and investing where measurable impact can be achieved. Energy, water and waste practices are reviewed at property level, supported by building controls, supplier partnerships and ongoing infrastructure assessment.

Property Highlights

The Johnstown Estate

The Johnstown Estate applies infrastructure-led environmental measures, including on-site energy generation, certified green electricity and integrated building controls. Waste diversion, on-site food production and biodiversity initiatives support responsible estate management across 120 acres.

Mount Juliet Estate

Mount Juliet Estate operates within internationally recognised sustainability frameworks, supported by energy management systems, EV charging infrastructure and estate-wide stewardship practices. The property holds Green Tourism Bronze certification and applies structured waste and recycling programmes aligned with global hotel standards.

Trim Castle Hotel

Trim Castle Hotel applies practical environmental measures focused on energy efficiency, waste reduction and local sourcing. Recycling and organics programmes divert a significant proportion of waste from landfill, supported by efficient lighting and operational controls.

Social

Exceptional hospitality begins with people. Across the Collection, our hotels are committed to providing safe, inclusive and supportive workplaces where teams can develop and thrive. Learning, progression and wellbeing are supported through structured training, clear leadership and local engagement.

Some properties within the Collection hold independent workplace and employer accreditations, while others operate within the same shared framework as they continue to progress. Together, these practices reflect a culture grounded in care, accountability and pride in service.

Governance

The Johnstown Collection operates under a shared governance framework covering data protection, equality, accessibility, gratuities, health and safety and environmental management. Policies are reviewed regularly to ensure compliance with Irish legislation and industry best practice.

ESG oversight sits with senior management, with responsibility for implementation held at property level. This structure ensures consistency in standards while allowing each hotel to respond appropriately to its operational context.
